UPDATE: According to information released by the HCSO on Saturday, a passenger in the car involved in the pursuit/shootout, has been charged with numerous drug crimes.
Courtney Faulkner, 20, a passenger in the truck Cody Seals was operating, has been arrested and charged with the following: Methamphetamine for resale, Marijuana for resale, and Heroin for resale. Faulkner’s bond has been set at $150,000.
Cody Seals remains in a local hospital.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Thursday evening incident in which a suspect was shot and a Tennessee State Trooper was injured.
According to a press release by the HCSO, on Thursday evening at approximately 7:00 p.m, Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 27 near Mountain Creek Road.
The suspect vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued heading northbound on Highway 27.
The suspect engaged Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers with gunfire and eventually crossed the median into the southbound lane of Highway 27 coming to rest off the roadway.
The suspect continued to engage Troopers in gunfire and they returned fire.
The Troopers’ involved were Khalat Ghazi and Trooper Rich Thomas. Trooper Ghazi sustained a minor injury and is being treated at local medical facility.
The suspect, Cody Seals, of Corryton, Tennessee, was struck and was transported to a local medical facility where he is listed in stable condition.
Hamilton County District Attorney Neil Pinkston has directed the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to investigate this Officer Involved Shooting and report their findings directly to him.
