A Soddy-Daisy man has been arrested after he and three associates allegedly robbed a man in a local motel, late Wednesday night
Anthony Lee Mullis, 24, of a Post Avenue address in Soddy-Daisy, was charged with Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary. He is currently being held in the Hamilton County Jail under a $25,000 bond. It is unclear when he will appear in municipal court.
According to an affidavit of complaint, police were dispatched to the 4As Inn at 11:16 p.m., Wednesday on an unknown 911 call. When police arrived they spoke with a man who said that several men broke into his room and assaulted him. The victim said he was in the room with a woman when he went to the bathroom. When he came out, the woman had vanished. A short time later, two white males and a black male broke into his room. One of the men, known to him only as Dustin, asked him why he had lied to him and then assaulted him with the help of one of the other suspects.
According to the report, the victim had some small redness around his nose, however he refused medical treatment.
The report states that police checked out the door to the room and determined there was no forced entry. A witness told police that one of the men had entered the room without a backpack but left with one on his shoulder. The report states that police informed the victim that his backpack had been stolen and he became very concerned. When asked what was inside the backpack, the victim told police that he had “important papers” inside but did not elaborate.
The report states that police believe they know the identity of “Dustin.” It is believed he is the ex-boyfriend of the woman who had once been inside the motel room with the victim.
The case was assigned to an investigator. On Friday, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit encountered a woman in a Lee Highway motel. During the encounter CSU officers personally observed the backpack belonging to the victim. The report states that inside the backpack police found an unspecified number of credit cards and miscellaneous items. The backpack was seized as recovered stolen property.
The woman in possession of the backpack was advised of her Constitutional rights and gave a statement to police.
According to the report, the woman told police that on Wednesday night she was in the 4A’s motel room with the victim. She left the room and left a credit card between the locking mechanism and the door strike. She told police that Mullis and two other men then entered the victim’s motel room. The report states that she told police that she overheard a physical altercation. She said that she heard the victim scream, “I didn’t do it.”
A few moments later she saw Mullis and the two other men leave the room. Mullis, she said, was in possession of the backpack. The report states she left the motel with the three men in a silver Dodge Caliber and dropped Mullis and another man at a West End Avenue address. The woman then drove with another man to a Fountain Avenue address where the man may have stolen a silver Chevy Impala.
According to the report, police will seek arrest warrants for the woman and the other two men on robbery, burglary and conspiracy charges.
