Update: On Friday, East Ridge police said the investigation quickly uncovered that the gunshot wound the 16-year-old juvenile suffered was self inflicted and accidental. Chief Clint Uselton said this incident never provided a threat to the greater community. He said that investigators will follow up on how the juvenile victim came into possession of the firearm.
East Ridge police are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday on Glowmont Drive.
According to ERPD Chief Clint Uselton, a 16-year-old male was taken by personal vehicle to Parkridge East Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. Officials said the injuries to the victim do not appear life-threatening.
The victim, a witness and evidence led detectives to an address in the 1600 block of Glowmont Drive just after 1 p.m.
Chief Uselton said ERPD investigators are working to determine the facts of the case.
