_ 5610 Ringgold Rd.: Last week police responded to Easy Auto on a theft of a vehicle. According to a police report, officers spoke with the manager who said that some one had taken a 2005 Hyundai Tucson from the lot at 4 a.m. The manager showed officers video surveillance of the incident. The video showed a silver Ford Focus stop at the end of the lot and let a person out then driving off. The tape shows a person making their way through the rear of the lot and entering the Hyundai. The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie.
When the Hyundai attempts to leave it is blocked by two other cars. The drive of the Hyundai pushes those two vehicles out of the way so that they were able to leave. The stolen vehicle then turns left onto Ringgold Road.
The report states that a Chevy HHR and a Chevy Equinox were damaged during the theft. Estimated damages to those two vehicles were placed at $5,000.
The stolen vehicle was entered into a national data base as stolen. The case has been assigned to a detective for follow up.
_ 825 Summitt Ave.: Police were dispatched to the address on Sept. 7 regarding an auto burglary. According to a police report, officers spoke with a woman who said that her Volvo was burglarized overnight. The victim, a teacher in the Hamilton County school system, said that a machine used to assist vision-impaired students was taken from the rear of the vehicle. The woman provided the model number and serial number to the Western Opthalmics model V2 machine. It is stamped with “Property of Hamilton County” on the black case. The machine is valued at almost $3,000, the report states. There is no suspect information at this time.
_ 4150 Monroe St.: Police were called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Sept. 8 regarding a shoplifter. According to a police report, when police arrived they immediately began searching for the suspect who reportedly ran from the store with his arms full of groceries but were unable to locate anyone. Police spoke with the manager of the store who said that the suspect was going through the self-checkout line when he loaded up several bags and bolted. According to the manager, the suspect ran through the parking lot dropping several items along the way.
The suspect is described as a 25 to 30-year old black male, wearing a white tank top and blue pans. He had a mowhawk haircut. The report states the man got away with almost $150 in groceries. The store is gathering still photos and surveillance video for police to investigate.
