Police charged a Chippewah Drive man with two counts of Domestic Assault, after the man’s 14-year-old stepdaughter called 911 to report a fight between her mother and the man.
According to an affidavit of complaint, officers were called to 1145 Chippewah Drive at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday night. Dispatch informed officers that the 911 caller was a girl who had locked herself in a bathroom when her mother and stepfather were fighting.
When police arrived, a man was inside a vehicle in the driveway revving the engine of the car. The man, later identified as Michael Mogren, got out of the car and was detained by officers. The report states that Mogren smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared to be highly intoxicated.
Officers spoke with the girl who told them that the family had recently been informed that her grandfather had passed away in Michigan. She said that her mother and stepfather began fighting and said that they were both drunk. The report states that the girl told police that at one point Mogren attempted to choke her mother. The girl told officers that she screamed for the pair to stop fighting, but Mogren took the woman into the kitchen where he allegedly slammed his wife’s head against the wall.
The girl told officer she was scared seeing the fight, called 911 for help and locked herself in the bathroom and waited for help to arrive.
The report states that the victim of the alleged assault had apparent injuries to her face. Her bottom lipped was cut and bleeding and she had bruising around her left eye. The report states that the side of the woman’s neck had red marks on it, which appeared to be fresh. The report states that the victim also appeared to be drunk and would say little else about the assault other than Mogren had “shoved” her.
According to the report, Mogren “stated loudly that he ‘beat the piss’ out of her because she pissed him off.”
The report states that the first officer on the scene had to talk the girl out of the bathroom because she had been so terrified during the incident. The girl told police that she feared her stepfather would retaliate against her for calling police. The girl’s older sister came to the scene and took her sister to her home to spend the night.
Mogren, 53, was charged with two counts of Domestic Assault and is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Feb. 16.
