An alert officer working an extra job at a grocery store led to the arrest of two people Tuesday evening.
According to a police report, officers responded to the Food City at 3715 Ringgold Road after the officer working an extra job there said he was out in the lot with two possibly intoxicated men. Police asked the driver of the car, later identified as Brandon Nichols, to step out and have a word. Nichols told police that his identification was inside his wallet near the driver’s seat. When the wallet was collected from the car, a clear plastic baggie containing four red round pills (oxycontin) and a single green pill (xanax) were inside. Nichols admitted the pills belonged to him, the report states.
A man in the front seat of the car, later identified as Kacy Bembry, was unresponsive and unable to stand up on his own two feet. He was detained and put in the back of the police cruiser for his own safety. Nichols gave consent for police to search the vehicle. Officers located a Glock 42 semi-automatic pistol on the dash of the driver’s side. Officers also found a scale in the back of the back of the driver’s seat. According to the report, when police advised Nichols of his Miranda rights, he told them he was a convicted felon. Nichols also stated that he and Bembry were en route to “pick up a load.” The report states that police found $1,05 0 in Bembry’s wallet.
Nichols, 27, of a Soddy-Daisy address, was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on charges of Felony Possession of a Firearm, Violation of Probation. Bembry, of a Cleveland address, was cited for Public Intoxication.
_ 5707 Ringgold Rd.: Police were called to the Dollar General, Tuesday afternoon, on a theft in progress. According to a police report, while the officer was en route dispatched informed him that the two suspects were placing merchandise into a white four-door Nissan sedan. When the officer arrived he saw a man and a woman exit the store and place additional items in the car.
According to the report, the officer stopped the couple identified as Johnny and Olivia Browner. Employees of the store told police that the Browners had loaded two bags of dog food into the car without paying for them. Olivia Browner could not produce a receipt for the dog food. According to the report, Johnny Browner admitted to taking the Pedigree dog food.
The report states that while on scene, the officer verified that Olivia Browner had an outstanding warrant out of Hamilton County for theft. The report states that Olivia Browner also has a history of theft charges in Hamilton County. Johnny Browner also has an extensive theft history in Hamilton County as well as prior burglary charges.
Johnny Browner, 49, of a North Hickory Street address in Chattanooga, was charged with Theft under $1,000. Olivia Browner, 40, was charged with Theft.
The dog food was returned to the store.
