Life in America over the past decade or two (at the very least) should have taught us all something about our elected officials: 1) the need for personal integrity and accountability and 2) the seeming total absence of it in the people we keep electing. This applies at the local, state, and national levels and applies independent of political party.
We have an opportunity here in East Ridge coming up in November to make our voices heard (for a change) by electing someone I have known for decades and who possesses those traits of personal integrity and accountability: Richard (Dick) Cook.
I graduated from East Ridge High School with Dick. Whereas I chose a career that moved me all around our nation, Dick has remained grounded here in East Ridge and has willingly become invested in our city, how it is run, how it is managed (and often mismanaged), the personalities involved throughout our city and this area, and how to conduct matters in a proper and open way.
Dick and I may differ on a few things. But one thing I know for a fact that we share is a desire to do things in a proper and open manner and to preserve our personal integrity and accountability in the process. Dick believes in being very open about how our city is run and will do all that he can to remove the sense of secrecy that has been an overarching characteristic over how our city has been run for decades.
I can wholeheartedly and without equivocation endorse and recommend Richard (Dick) Cook for the office of Mayor of East Ridge in our upcoming election!
East Ridge and the citizens of East Ridge certainly deserve personal integrity and accountability in our elected officials. Our city has allowed itself to all but abandon those principles for far too long. It’s way past time to restore them and to never allow them to disappear again.
You will not see his name on the printed voting ballots. However, you will make your voice be heard louder than it otherwise would by casting a write-in vote for Dick.
I know that I will appreciate your vote for him and I’m quite certain that Dick will appreciate your vote even more than that!
_ Thank you, Michael (Mickey) Spencer
