High winds and heavy rain swept through the area early Monday afternoon, causing minor damage.
East Ridge firefighters were called to the shopping center in the 5600 block of Ringgold Road at about 2:20 p.m. because much of the building had lost power. An investigation revealed that power lines behind the building on Oakdale Avenue were arcing. Fire officials were standing by awaiting the arrival of an EPB crew to address the problem.
Fire officials said that a tree fell across power lines on Brookfield Avenue causing arcing in the lines in that area.
In addition, lines were down in the 4300 block of Dupont Street and near East Ridge High School, officials said.
There was some localized flooding along Ringgold Road as the area received almost two inches of rain in less than an hour. Officials said water was several feet deep near the Food City in the 3700 block. However, the water receded quickly.
Emergency officials said several traffic accidents were also reported in the hour immediately following the storm.
