The Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves Soccer SC announced Thursday it has hired a new Head Coach. Luke Winter will lead the team in its second season of play in the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of the Chattanooga Red Wolves organization and were delighted to see how well our Lady Red Wolves inaugural season concluded in 2019,” said Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves’ General Manager, Gretchen Hammel,
“We had an unbelievable pool of talented players and an excellent coach in Billy Sparks. As our first coach, Billy had several accomplishments from last season to be very proud of. Although we were sad to see he and his family move away, we are happy for what is ahead for him.” Hammel added.
“Moving forward, our new hire is a good one and we couldn’t be more thrilled about Luke Winter. With him and the depth of players on our roster, we have such a positive outlook for the Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves season in 2021. Luke Winter is a local soccer superstar. He brings an overwhelming wealth of knowledge and expertise to the coaching front from being both an elite-level player and coach. I am looking forward to watching how well he does with this women’s team.”
After receiving the AAC MVP college honor at Tennessee Wesleyan and being named one of the greatest soccer players in NPSL history, Luke Winter has continued his soccer legacy onward with a distinguished coaching career. Winter recently completed his USSF ‘A’ License to combine with his USC Premier Diploma. He was voted Coach of the year in the AAC for 2019, after Tennessee Wesleyan won the regular season and made an NAIA national tournament appearance. Winter was recently named the Vice President for Youth Soccer for the Chattanooga Red Wolves Academy in June 2020. Winter has also coached collegiately at local institutions such as TWU, Bryan College, and Shorter University.
“My good friend Billy Sparks did a fantastic job with the team previously and I have big shoes to fill,” said Winters. “I am excited to work alongside Gretchen to continue the success that she and this team brings to Chattanooga soccer. The team is full of amazing players and I look forward to getting to know them and work with them. The opportunity to have the WPSL team at the top of our pyramid is huge for all of the female players in the Red Wolves Organization.
“I truly believe myself and Gretchen, with the help of Derek Greene (Red Wolves Academy Director) and Chad Mize (RWA President), we can create an exciting soccer path and inspiration for the girls in the Red Wolves Academy,” Winter concluded.
