East Ridge Goalkeeper Morgan Montieth kicks downfield during the Lady Pioneers’ district-clinching win over Hixson at Camp Jordan.
East Ridge clinched the regular-season District 6 A/AA title Wednesday night with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Hixson in girls’ soccer at Camp Jordan.
Lady Pioneer Coach Jeremy McIntyre said it was a “great game in the trenches,” as East Ridge improved its record to 7-0-1 and a perfect 6-0 in the district.
“This was a tough game,” McIntryre said. “We scored in the first half and then early in the second. It was nice to have a two-point cushion.”

Serena Smith drives around the Hixson defense on her way to a first-half goal in the Lady Pioneers win at Camp Jordan Thursday evening.
Serena Smith scored about three quarters of the way through the first half on a break-away goal, squeezing the ball in the extreme right corner of the Lady ‘Cats goal. The half ended with the 1-0 lead.
Kayla Deck gave the Lady Pioneers a 2-0 lead early in the second. Then it was up to goalkeeper Morgan Montieth. The senior consistently repelled the 18 shots a determined Hixson team sent her way. “(Montieth) made some really good saves when we needed them the most,” McIntyre said.
Hixson’s goal was compliments of Karla Martinez.
