Sib Evans was a perfect 3-for-3 for Catholic Baseball, as it edged Oakwood Christian Academy, 9-6, Tuesday in middle school baseball.
Evans singled in the first, third, and fourth innings, as Catholic improved to a perfect 3-0 in Independent School Conference play and 4-6 overall.
Oakwood will get a chance at redemption on Friday, as Catholic hosts them in a 5 p.m. game.
Catholic wasted no time getting on the board, as Nick Pendergrass walked, Oakwood committed an error, and Sam Baker grounded out, resulting in a 2-0 lead.
Catholic added runs in the second after a Myles Pruitt walk, and in the third on an Ethan Land ground out.
Catholic piled up 11 hits in the game. Deagan Bain went 2-for-3, and Pruitt, Caleb Grass and Noah Winland stole multiple bases for Catholic.
Cooper Grant, Catholic’s starting pitcher, allowed three hits in two innings of work. He struck out three and walked one. Nathan Wesson and Pendergrass each appeared in relief.
Givens started the game for Oakwood Christian Academy. The starting pitcher gave up eight hits and seven runs (four earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three.
Barker led Oakwood Christian Academy with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Davis and Barker each collected two hits for Oakwood Christian. Booth paced Oakwood Christian Academy with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
