Walker Valley scored twice on two big plays to hand East Ridge a 14-0 loss in the Jamboree at Finley Stadium Saturday night.
The Pioneers’ opening drive was impressive, but they were forced to punt after a third-down sack.
Lorenzo Stewart had a 17-yard run for East Ridge while John Joffre had a pass reception good for 15 yards.
Coach Tracy Malone, whose team has numerous first-year starters, said he believed the team was a little nervous. Coach Malone noted that the offensive line blocked well but the Pioneers were hampered by six bad snaps during the quarter of action.
East Ridge opens the season on Aug. 21, as the Pioneers travel to Polk County for a non-district game. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
The home opener will be with Signal Mountain on Sept. 4. Game time is 7 p.m.
