The Chattanooga Fire Department’s Second Annual CFD Awards was held Monday night at the Bessie Smith Hall, and several people with connections to East Ridge were honored.
Capt. Joey Smith, son of Sammye and Kenny Smith, who are East Ridge residents, shared the department’s highest honor, Firefighter of the Year, along with Firefighter Tyler Toon. The men were responsible for saving a resident’s life during a November 2015 fire on N. Highland Park Avenue.
Senior Firefighter Jack Thompson, a longtime East Ridge resident, was recognized with the Military Service Award as having received the U.S. Navy’s Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
