According to the Hamilton County “hot spot” map, East Ridge recorded six new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, June 17, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 216, the third most in Hamilton County.
East Ridge trails only East Lake (485 and East Brainerd (259) in the highest concentration of Coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in March.
East Ridge News Online reached out to the Hamilton County Health Department through its media portal on May 28, requesting comment on possible explanations as to why so many cases are concentrated here. It has yet to receive a response.

According to the health department, 47 new cases were reported on Wednesday, June 17, bringing the total number in the county to 1,988. Two additional deaths were reported, bringing the total number of people who have succumbed to the virus to 24.
The number of people hospitalized is now at 46, with 14 in intensive care.
The number of active cases across the county as of Wednesday rose by 43 to 1,026. Those fully recovered was placed at 938.
According to the health department, a total of 27,566 people in the county have now been tested for the virus, with 25,578 showing negative results.
The CDC has updated their COVID-19 high-risk groups by adding pregnant women and homeless individuals. The complete list of high-risk groups can be found on the CDC website. The Health Department’s Homeless Healthcare Center continues to provide essential services to the homeless during this time, while their Breastfeeding Support Program provides telephone support to breastfeeding mothers.
