UPDATE: On Wednesday the Hamilton County Commission approved a measure to allocate $50,000 to help temporarily house people displaced from the Budgetel. The one condition the commission attached was that the $50,000 the City of Chattanooga allocated must be spent first.
On Tuesday, the Chattanooga City Council voted to allocate $50,000 to provide temporary housing in area hotels for those displaced from the Budgetel.
The vote came after a presentation from the city’s Office of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition.
The Hamilton County Commission will take up the issue of monetary support for helping those evicted from the East Ridge extended stay facility on Wednesday morning.
If the county commission passes its measure, it would mean a total of $100,000 would go into the coffers of the homeless coalition to provide hotel rooms for those evicted for another month.
Officials with the coalition said it may take $400,000 to ensure the majority of those displaced and currently being housed in hotel rooms are placed in longer-term housing.
