Catholic scored eight runs in the second inning which was more than enough to get past Oakwood, 14-4, Thursday, in middle school baseball.
A couple of errors by Oakwood helped Catholic in the big inning.
Ethan Land got the win for Catholic. The starter didn’t give up a hit, but allowed three runs – two unearned – over two innings. He struck out four and walked five batters. Cooper Grant threw a scoreless inning in relief, allowing a single hit and fanning three.
Myles Pruitt led Catholic with three RBIs. The first baseman was 1-for-three. Catholic was patient at the plate, drawing eight walks in the game. Grant, Caleb Grass and Will Thomas each stole multiple bases in the contest.
Catholic will travel to Whitwell on Saturday. The junior varsity’s first pitch is scheduled for noon with varsity following at 2 p.m.
