Catholic never trailed as it breezed past Grace Academy, 9-1, Friday in middle school baseball action.
Catholic put up four runs in the first two innings and never looked back. In the first, Caleb Grass was hit by a pitch and Nick Pendergrass’s ground out scored two runs. In the second inning, Myles Pruitt singled to left field scoring a pair or runs.
Holder Donnelly pitched three innings in relief. He allowed two hit and one run, while fanning four and walking two.
Grass came on in relief and pitched two innings of scoreless baseball.
Liam Zarzour, the starter for Grace, allowed nine hits and eight runs (four earned) over four innings. Zarzour struck out four and walked one.
All told, Catholic managed 10 base hits. Pruitt and Donnelly were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Pruitt and Noah Winland were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Pruitt and Donnelly each stole multiple bases, as Catholic ran wild on the base paths, accumulating eight stolen bases for the game.
Catholic will host Red Bank on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
