Republican candidate for District Attorney Coty Wamp proudly announced today she has received the public endorsement of the highest-ranking veteran in Hamilton County – Retired U.S. Army General B.B. Bell. In conjunction with the campaign, General Bell released the following statement of support.
“I strongly endorse Coty Wamp for Hamilton County District Attorney. Public safety is the number one issue facing our community, and for that matter, any community. Hamilton County has made incredible progress in so many areas, but if we do not focus on combatting violent crime and opioid abuse, our progress will be meaningless.
“Part of my decision to endorse Coty Wamp for District Attorney is based on the simple fact that my family and I feel less safe today than we did eight years ago when our current District Attorney took office. Before I made an endorsement decision, I sat down with Coty so that I could be sure her priorities align with mine. They do and then some.
“I look forward to a more vocal and transparent District Attorney. I, like so many citizens of this community, would like to know how my taxpayer dollars are being spent and what our criminal justice priorities are. We must focus on reducing violent crime by ensuring violent offenders receive the punishment and jail time they deserve. This means fewer cases will be negotiated and more cases will be taken to trial. Our DA must treat victims as victims and seek justice for them.
“Next, I am confident Coty will support and protect law enforcement. As District Attorney, I know she will make it her mission to earn the trust and confidence of every law enforcement office in our community. I’m sure this commitment is why she earned the endorsement and support of the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers.
“Lastly, there are times when I have observed a lack of transparency from our current District Attorney. And it is a complete abuse of power to ask for a TBI investigation into one’s only political opponent. Doing so is beyond outrageous. Beyond outrageous.
“We need new leadership for our District Attorney, and Coty Wamp is the right candidate at the right time. I strongly endorse her and ask you to vote for her on May 3rd.”
