John Anderson, former City Attorney for the City of East Ridge, passed away on Saturday morning.
Anderson, 65, died after battling esophageal cancer.
Anderson, who worked under the administrations of Mayors Mike Steele and Brent Lambert, was credited by both men as being instrumental in the city being included as one of three in the state to qualify for the Border Region Act.
A native of the Nashville area, he was a Brock Scholar at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Law where he was the recipient of the Chapin-Thomas Scholarship.
He joined the law practice of Grant Konvalinka & Harrison P.C. in 1990. His focus was on commercial real estate law and real estate development law.
Anderson was also a former legal counsel for the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home in Hixson. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
