On Saturday afternoon an off-duty Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Court Officer was involved in a shooting incident near the 1900 block of Chestnut Street and sustained a gunshot wound during the incident.
The off-duty Court Officer, Lauren McMillion, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition at this time.
Chattanooga Police have charged Lauren McMillion with Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping along with one other individual in relation to the shooting.
McMillion has been placed on administrative leave as per HCSO policy pending the conclusion of both an internal investigation (HCSO) and criminal investigation (CPD).
According to a Chattanooga Police Department press release, when officers arrived at the location, they found McMillion with a gunshot wound inside of the residence and a man, who police did not identify, outside of the residence. It was determined through investigation that McMillion accused the man of theft, and she, along with 44-year-old Stanley Asegbola, physically assaulted the man while both brandishing weapons, according to police.
It was also determined that “the female upholstered her loaded firearm and had it in her hand when the man who stated he was in fear for his life disarmed then shot her with the weapon. The man who fired the weapon is not charged in this incident, police said.
Asegbola also faces aggravated assault and kidnapping charges stemming from the incident and is being held at the Silverdale Detention Center, the release states.
