RINGGOLD – Catoosa County Animal Control representatives are reminding pet owners to bring their animals indoors or in a secure location when fireworks are being discharged for Independence Day celebrations.
“Dogs and cats are sensitive to loud noises, especially fireworks, which they can perceive as a threat,” said Catoosa County Animal Control Director Sheree Horton. “When animals feel threatened or are terrified, they tend to run away or seek safety which can leave them lost or injured.”
Horton recommends pet owners bring their pets indoors, close windows and doors and turn on televisions or radios to provide a calming atmosphere when fireworks can be heard outside. Horton strongly discourages pet owners from bringing their animals to fireworks shows.
“I would also encourage pet owners to make sure their animals have up to date collars with ID tags and microchips,” Horton said. “In the event their animals become lost they can be quickly re-united with their owners if they are brought to our shelter by our officers or concerned citizens.”
