Four Applications for West End of City; 14 for the East End

The City of East Ridge received 18 applications from people wanting to get into the liquor store business here. 

In February the City Council voted to accept the recommendations of staff to limit the number of liquor stores to one in each of two districts and employ a lottery to make the selections. District A is from the Bachman Tunnels to Belvoir Avenue. District B is from South Moore to Spring Creek Roads.

City Manager Chris Dorsey said last Tuesday that the lottery to select the proprietors would be several weeks away. City officials said each application would have to be reviewed to ensure those seeking entry into the lottery have a legitimate site selected, have the financial means to follow through with construction, and pass a background check.

The lottery, officials said, would be conducted by a third party – presumably the city’s auditing firm – and occur during a City Council meeting. The deadline for submitting an application to enter the liquor store lottery was March 15.

District A on the Western side of the city showed much less interest than the district closer to Interstate 75 and the Jordan Crossing development where development is thriving.

Those who have applied to do business in this district are: P.J. Patel, Kanaiyalal Patel, Harsh Patel and Allen Dale Hughey. The locations identified as a site for the new liquor store – new construction with a minimum showroom of 4,500-square-feet – are 3903 Ringgold Road and 3940 Ringgold Road.

Those people applying in District B located on the East end of the city, would also be required to build a new building, but with a minimum showroom of 7,500-square-feet.

Further information provided by the city to East Ridge News Online, indicate that Adkins’ application is under the name “East Ridge Wine & Spirits.” This organization consists of the following people: Adkins, Kim Adkins, Deanne Dawes, Darik Dawes, David Dawes, Shelly Dawes, Michael Gibson, Joe Barnes, and Mary Hope Maples.
