FarmtoMed Owner to Testify in Nashville
FarmtoMed, CBD stores and farm owner Chris Sumrell will testify before the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 23, in support of a bill to legalize medical cannabis in the state of Tennessee.
Despite medical cannabis being legal in 36 states, it is not legal in Tennessee. Tennessee Senate Bill SB854, the Tennessee Medical Cannabis Act, written by Senator Janice Bowling (R – Tullahoma, District 16) will make medical cannabis legal in the state with the proper protections, regulations and restrictions.
“This bill provides the framework to allow access to medical cannabis on a regulated basis for patients with qualifying conditions” said Sumrell. “It takes the steps necessary to allow Tennesseans to access medical cannabis as an alternative to prescription painkillers.” According to Healthline.com, in states that have legalized medical cannabis, there has been a 25 percent decrease in deaths from painkiller overdoses.
This reevaluation of the legal status of cannabis has support. A Times Free Press Power Poll in 2019 found nearly 88 percent of respondents support legalizing cannabis in some form across the state. “Clearly the time has come for Tennessee to become the 37th state approve the medicinal properties of this naturally grown plant,” Sumrell stated.
