The men of the Delta Theta chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga held a toy and gift drive to benefit the East Ridge Needy Child Fund on Saturday at the fraternity house on Siskin Drive.
This marks the fourth year the brothers of Delta Theta have given to the Needy Child Fund. In year’s past, the brothers have hosted a Christmas party at the house and gathered around the tree to share in brotherhood showing an outpouring of generosity benefiting the less fortunate in East Ridge.
Of course, in this strange year of 2020 with the threat of possibly spreading COVID-19, the holiday festivities were curtailed, but not the spirit of giving.
Brothers and alumni were asked to drop their unwrapped gifts by the house where they were greeted on the front porch by officers of the fraternity.
This year more than 200 separate items were collected and turned over to Debbie Colburn of the Needy Child Fund. Colburn has been the principal contact between the charity and the fraternity through the years. She is usually accompanied by several associates from the charity, and her grandson, Harper.
In year’s past, the brothers of Sigma Chi have donated nearly a thousand articles to the East Ridge Needy Child Fund, including, toys, sports equipment, bicycles, board games, educational items and clothing.
