On Monday night, East Ridge police were called to the 6900 block of Martha Avenue on a reported Aggravated Burglary and Aggravated Assault.
According to a department “pass along report,” as officers were arriving in the area the suspect was observed travelling at a high rate of speed, with no lights through Camp Jordan Park. Police attempted to catch up to and halt the vehicle. The vehicle continued to flee at a high rate of speed.
Officers attempted to “spike” the vehicle at Camp Jordan Parkway and Ringgold Road but were unsuccessful because of the vehicle’s speed. Officers pursued the vehicle for a short period of time on I-75 north while officers on scene attempted to determine the severity of offenses.
Because of traffic conditions and the ability to possibly identify the subject through alternative means the pursuit was terminated.
As police continued through the I-75/I-24 split, officers observed debris where the suspect vehicle made contact with the barrier walls. Construction workers in the area also alerted officers to the fact the suspect vehicle had made contact with a Semi-Truck.
Police inquired several times if Chattanooga had received any reports of a crash and they had not.
The suspect was later identified as Gregory Pitmon. Warrants will be sought for Aggravated Assault, Simple Domestic Assault, Speeding, Improper Passing, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Felony Evading.
