Helpful Facts on Registration, Early Voting, Requesting Absentee Ballots, And Who is Running

Today’s the day … Election Day 2020.

Just as in the August State/Federal Primary Election, all voters in East Ridge who wish to vote on election day will do so at Camp Jordan Arena at 323 Camp Jordan Parkway. All four precincts will have areas inside the arena where they will be assisted in voting.

All voters must have a valid photo identification, election officials said. 

The following is some information that may be helpful in assisting citizens to cast their votes for their favored candidates.

If you are not registered to vote, it’s too late. Registration for this election concluded on Oct. 5. Nevertheless, you can register for future elections by going to the Hamilton County Election Commission at 700 River Terminal Road. Or you can register online. The non-partisan East Ridge Municipal Election will be on the ballot as well as those for state and federal offices.

Candidates for East Ridge City Council are: Jeff Ezell, Robert E. Gilreath Jr., Esther Helton, Denny Manning, David Tyler, and Andrea “Aundie” Witt.

There will also be two referenda on the ballot for voters to decide. 

The first on the ballot is a proposed ordinance that would not require the East Ridge Municipal Court Judge to live within the city limits of East Ridge. The judge would have to be a resident of Hamilton County for at least one year.

The second is a measure that would allow retail package stores to sell liquor in East Ridge.

Also on the ballot is the race for the Tennessee House of Representatives, District 30. Esther Helton is the Republican incumbent. She is being challenged by Democrat Joseph Udeaja.

Also on the ballot is the race for Tennessee Senate, District 10. Incumbent Todd Gardenhire (R), is being challenged by Glenn Scruggs (D).
