East Ridge upset Hixson on its home pitch, 1-0, Tuesday in girls’ high school soccer action.
The only goal of the match was in the second half as Allie Argueta put in a free kick from 20 yards out into the upper left corner of the goal.
The win lifts the Lady Pioneers to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in District 8/AA.
Coach Jeremy McIntyre said Lucy Lopez very well could have had three goals but “Hixson’s keeper had to make some big saves.”
McIntyre praised the great defensive effort by Macy Payne, Frida Jacobo, Jasela Perez, Kieralee Huff and Olis Diaz. Goalkeeper Nia Barnes gets credit for the shutout.
East Ridge has one district game remaining on Monday against Sequatchie County. The winner of the game will get the top seed in the upcoming district tournament.
