Fire damaged 10 units of an apartment complex on Dorroh Lane, Friday morning, officials said.
According to East Ridge Fire Chief Mike Williams, firefighters were dispatched to 100 Dorrah Ln. at 8:23 on an apartment fire. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and fire was coming from the building with two people trapped on a second floor.
Fire crews used extension ladders to get the trapped people to safety. Other crews began an aggressive interior attack, Chief Williams said.
After a second alarm was called in through Tri-State Mutual Aid, and crews located and contained the fire using hand lines and master streams, Chief Williams said.
Two people were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported during the incident. One family pet, Chief Williams said, was rescued from the fire and taken by East Ridge Animal Services to a local veterinarian for treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire/Arson Division, officials said. Ten apartments were damaged by the fire/smoke, and damages are estimated to be $250,000.
Officials said the Red Cross is assisting several occupants of the damaged apartments.
