UPDATED: Police are releasing the name of the man whose body was found in a shed last Sunday. Authorities say the man was Blair Lamar Morgan of Savannah, Georgia.
Authorities believe that there was no foul play connected with Morgan’s death. Circumstances surrounding the incident and evidence at the scene suggest that Morgan may have died from an overdose.
Police are investigating the circumstances behind the discovery of a man’s body early Sunday evening.
According to a police report, a man who did not give his name called police at about 7 p.m. to report that a body was in a shed behind Melodee’s restaurant at 3918 Ringgold Rd. Police went to the location, entered the shed and found a white male on his knees slumped over in the back left corner of the shed.
The report states that officers rolled the body over to check for signs of life. It appeared that the man had been dead for several days.
Police secured the scene and called department detectives and the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s office to the scene. The report states a detective documented the scene with photos.
A member of the medical examiner’s department recovered a Georgia driver’s license from the wallet of the dead man. The report states the photo on the identification appeared to be that of the deceased. The man’s ID indicated that he was 55-years-old and from Savannah.
According to a department “pass along” report, items were found on the scene that indicated a possible drug overdose.
The body was taken by ambulance to the medical examiner’s office where presumably an autopsy will be conducted.
Officials with the ERPD did not provide additional information concerning the incident saying the investigation is ongoing. The man’s next of kin has yet to be notified, officials said.
_ 6200 Ringgold Rd.: Police were called to the Taco Bell on Sunday night in regard to an auto theft. According to a department “pass along” report, an officer spoke with a man who said he left his car running in the parking lot and someone made off in it. The victim, according to the report, was able to track the vehicle with a computer app on his smart phone. The vehicle was stopped at 290 Pine Grove Access Road in Ringgold, Ga. A law enforcement officer in Georgia confirmed the vehicle’s location and attempted to get out with the vehicle but it fled the scene.
The Georgia officer identified the driver as Hunter Bailey. The vehicle was later located at 6700 Ringgold Rd. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver once again fled.
The vehicle was tracked to Interstate 59 in Dade County where an officer attempted to stop it with no success. The vehicle entered back into Hamilton County where HCSO got involved in a pursuit before losing it in the I-75/Shallowford Road area.
Police tracked and located the vehicle at 7331 Shallowford Rd. using the tracking device. Chattanooga police located the vehicle which had been abandoned. The report states that HCSO personnel were on scene and a witness told them that a white male with a bald head was seen running towards a nearby business.
Police located the man hiding behind a dumpster at 2273 Gunbarrel Rd. The man was identified as Hunter Bailey. Bailey was arrested for auto theft, felony evading and possession of methamphetamine. He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail.
_ 201 Eads St.: Police responded to the address late Saturday night in regard to a burglary. According to a police report, officers spoke with a woman who said between 3 and 11:30 p.m. someone kicked open the door to her apartment and stole televisions and computer tablets. Officers saw that the bedroom in the apartment had dresser drawers open and the mattress had been turned upside down. A muddy smudge was on the door near the knob. The victim said thieves made off with three TV’s, a sound bar, a Galaxy tablet, computer games and wireless speakers. The report states that neighbors “did not see anything.”
