East Ridge police were contacted by a man from Alabama on Monday morning who said that he and his wife had been a victim of a theft while staying in a local motel last week.
According to a police report, the victim said that he and his wife were at the newly-opened Hampton Inn in Jordan Crossing on January 31 when someone went into his room and stole credit cards and a blank check. The victim said he stayed the night of Jan. 30 and the next morning he and his wife left their room to go get breakfast at about 7 a.m. After returning to the room, the report states, the man got a text from his credit card’s bank requesting approval of a purchase of more than $1,000 at Walmart on Gunbarrel Road. The man disallowed the charge. It was then, the victim states, he realized someone had been inside their motel room.
According to the report, it was soon discovered that purchases had been made at Lowe’s and Home Depot on Gunbarrel Road between the hours of 8 and 9 a.m. totaling $3,000. An additional purchase was made on the credit card before the account was deactivated, the report states.
The victim told police that the suspect had not disturbed anything noticeable inside the motel room. The credit cards and one check from a checkbook were the only items stolen from his wallet and his wife’s purse. The report states that before leaving the Hampton Inn, the victim notified the manager on duty of the theft. A record of the transactions were emailed to authorities from the victims’ financial institution.
_ 1109 San Hsi Dr.: Police responded to the address on Monday in regard to a theft. According to a police report, an officer spoke with a woman who said that someone had entered her unlocked Lexus SUV parked in her driveway and took a Glock 42 .380 pistol. The victim said the firearm was in a black bag inside the driver’s door. The bag also contained three magazines. The report states that there are no suspects, leads or witnesses at this time. The Glock was entered into a law enforcement data base as stolen.
_ 1517 Tombras Ave.: On Monday police responded to the address in regard to a disorder with a weapon. According to a police report, an officer spoke with a man who told him that he was walking down Tombras when he was confronted by someone inside a black Toyota sedan. The victim said that the vehicle pulled up next to him and someone leaned out of the widow on the front passenger’s side and pointed a firearm at him. The report states that the victim did not get a tag number to the car. Officers searched the area for the suspect vehicle but it could not be located.
