_ 5300 Block Ringgold Rd.: On Thursday morning, officers with the ERPD Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) saw a gold BMW in the this area who appeared to be distracted by something in the vehicle. According to an affidavit of complaint, the driver kept looking down and swerving into the adjacent lane several times. Officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Tony Perez, who had a passenger in the front seat. The report states that while officers were trying to verify the identity of the subjects in the vehicle, dispatch notified police that the BMW was reported stolen. Officers determined that Perez was driving on a revoked license and had active warrants from Georgia. The report states that officers removed the parties from the car and detained them. While attempting to detain Perez, he became combative and actively resisted the detention. An officer wrestled with Perez to detain him, the report states.
A search of the stolen vehicle turned up a cooler in the back seat that contained a bag containing 16.4 grams of methamphetamine, a small black box with two spoons with residue, two syringes, a pipe with meth residue wrapped in a paper towel, two grams of marijuana and a ledger with numerous names and dollar amounts.
Perez, 45, of a New Harley Road address in Cartersville, Georgia, was arrested and charged with Theft over $2,500, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Schedule II Drugs for Resale and Possession of Schedule Iv Drugs.
_ 6500 Block of Slater Road: On Thursday, an officer saw Paul Bailes driving a Jeep Cherokee driving east on Slater Road. Dispatch advised that the plate displayed on the vehicle returned to a GMC pickup truck. Police then spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of BB&T Bank and Bailes exited the vehicle and immediately opened the trunk making the tag unreadable. According to an affidavit of complaint, Bailes told police that the vehicle was not stolen, as law enforcement are familiar with the man being out on bond for a charge of car theft, and he also has a longstanding history of being associated with auto thefts. The report notes that Bailes is currently on felony probation and he consented to a search of the vehicle.
During the search, police located a syringe in the jacket pocket on the driver’s seat. When officers frisked Bailes he resisted and an uncapped syringe was found in his waistband. Due to Bailes being on felony probation for a methamphetamine charge, Bailes was placed into custody. Upon search incident to arrest, the report states, police found two grams of meth in his pants pocket inside a cigarette box.
After being taken to the Hamilton County Jail, Bailes was charged with Manufacture/Delivery/Possession/Sale of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
