Suspect in Walmart Neighborhood Market theft of $100.
_ 4150 Ringgold Rd.: On Monday afternoon, police were dispatched to the Walmart Neighborhood Market in regard to a theft. According to a police report, officers spoke with a woman who said that she had requested $100 cash back during a purchase she made at a self-checkout line. The woman said she forgot to take the cash before leaving. The woman said as soon as she realized her misstep, she went back to the check-out line and the cash was gone.
Police reviewed the surveillance video which showed the woman complete the transaction and walk away, leaving the cash in the dispenser. The woman behind her, a black female, wearing dark pants, a dark coat and a scarf then begins her transaction. A Walmart employee then sees the money and walks up to ask the unidentified woman if the money is hers. The surveillance video then shows the unidentified woman taking the money. She exits the store and gets into a silver Mitsubishi SUV.
_ 6962 Tiffany Ln.: Police were dispatched to the address last Friday in regard to a residential burglary and an auto theft. According to a police report, officers spoke with a woman who said that her residence was burglarized sometime between Jan. 8 and last Friday while she was out of town. She said that her daughter and a male friend were staying at the house while the homeowner was gone. The male friend told police that his 2017 Chevy Malibu that was inside the garage was stolen. According to the report, the homeowner/victim told police that a 50-inch television was stolen from a downstairs living room. She also said that her daughter’s laptop computer inside a backpack was stolen from the same room.
According to the report, officers saw that a window above the kitchen sink was forced open and pushed in allowing the suspect to possibly gain entry. The door leading to the outside from the rear of the garage was unlocked and not secured. A blue bandanna was found on the floor of the kitchen near the doorway leading into the garage. The homeowner told police that the bandanna did not belong to anyone at the residence. The house, the report states, had been ransacked with several items displaced and broken.
The report states that ERPD officers contacted OnStar regarding the stolen Chevy Malibu. OnStar officials were able to track the vehicle to 1600 E. 3rd St. the address of Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Chattanooga police located the vehicle in the parking lot of the facility. There was nobody inside the Chevy Malibu, the report states. The keys were not in the vehicle, and it was towed per the owner’s request.
The report states that Chattanooga police will attempt to gain surveillance video of the juvenile court’s parking lot in an attempt to identify the suspect. Several prints were lifted from the vehicle and will be processed.
