_ 1416 St. Thomas St.: Police received a call from the manager of Stateline Car Care early Friday morning saying that he had just witness a silver Dodge Ram pull against the fence of his business and a man had thrown a set of jumper cables over the fence. Two men were running from the truck to a white BMW that was stored on the business’s lot. According to an affidavit of complaint, the manager and another employee tried to confront the men but the men took off in the Dodge pickup. The report states that the manager followed the Dodge truck to the Motel 6 on Ringgold Road where he saw one of the men exit the truck and go inside a motel room. The report states officers arrived at the motel and made contact with one of the men who had left in the Dodge truck. The man admitted to police that he had been at Stateline Car Care and claimed the other guy inside the motel room had asked him to help jump his car off, the BMW.
Officers spoke with the man inside the motel, Jason Beene, who matched the description given to the cops from the car care manager. While police were speaking with Beene in the doorway of the motel, one of the officers noticed paperwork and an owner’s manual to the BMW on the floor just inside the doorway. Beene and his companion were detained, the report states. Both men claimed the other had asked for help jumping off the car. When Beene was asked how he came into possession of the paperwork and manual for the BMW, he said that he found it on the sidewalk just outside the doorway to the motel room. When police watched surveillance video from the motel, it showed Beene leaving the Dodge pickup truck carrying the owner’s manual to the BMW inside the motel. It was determined that Beene had outstanding warrants from East Ridge.
Beene, 40, of a Frutiland Drive address, was arrested and charged with Attempted Auto Theft and Burglary of an Auto.
_ 4338 Ringgold Rd.: Recently police were dispatched to the Food Lion in reference to an auto theft. According to a police report, an officer spoke with a woman who told them she went shopping for groceries at the store. The woman’s husband pulled the car up to the front of the store and left it running. He went inside to help his wife out with groceries. When the couple exited the store their car was gone. The car was entered into a crime data base as stolen, the report states. Police asked the store manager to review surveillance video from a camera in the front of the lobby. According to the report, the angle of the camera did not show the front of the store and parking lot area. There is no suspect information.
_ 4222 Ringgold Rd.: Police were dispatched to the Speedway at 4 a.m. on July 2 in reference to an auto theft. According to a police report, an officer arrived and spoke with the victim. The man said he left his vehicle unlocked and running while he went inside to conduct business. When he came out of the store, his 2013 Nissan Altima had vanished from the parking lot. The victim told police that he had his laptop computer and cellphone inside the stolen car. According to the report, police allowed the victim to go to ERPD headquarters and utilize a department computer to use an “app” called Find my IPhone. The “app” indicated the victim’s phone was at the corner or Arlington Avenue and Milne Street in Chattanooga. Police relocated to the address and found the victim’s car in the 800 block of Arlington Avenue. The victim was taken to the address and reunited with his automobile. However, the victim was not reunited with his computer or his cellphone. There is no suspect information at the time of the report, and Speedway employees were unable to access surveillance video.
