East Ridge police are investigating a drive-by shooting on Sunday night in the Oakdale, Marion Avenue area.
According to a press release, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Altamaha just before 10 p.m. The victim, 47-year-old Brad Weir, said that he was in the backyard of his home with his dog when he noticed a dark-colored sedan drive past. The car circled the block and stopped at the entrance to the victim’s driveway. Weir put his barking dog inside his house and approached the car, stepping to the passenger’s side of the vehicle.
According to Weir, the passenger window rolled down and he saw two individuals in the car. The press release states that Weir was unable to provide police with a description of the occupants of the vehicle, beyond that they were wearing dark, long-sleeved clothing, possibly hoodies.
Weir told police that he asked the occupants something to the effect of “can I help you?” and was promptly shot in the leg by one of the occupants of the vehicle, which then fled the scene.
The press release states that Weir called police and was found by patrol officers on the ground where he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken by ambulance to Erlanger hospital. His injuries, police said, are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said the investigation is continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact ERPD at 423-867-7516.
