A man who accidentally shot himself in the leg last Friday was arrested by police on Valentine’s Day on a drug charge.
David Noel Carter Jr., 19, of 409 Dunlap Street, was charged with Possession of Schedule IV drugs after police stopped the car in which he was riding for speeding. According to an affidavit of arrest, Carter was wanted on multiple East Ridge warrants.
The report states that police stopped a Toyota Corolla for going 40 miles per hour in a 30 mile speed zone on Greenslake Road. It was quickly determined that Carter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had outstanding warrants and was taken into custody. According to the report, police searched the car incident to arrest and found 29.2 grams of suspected marijuana. The driver of the vehicle was issued a warning ticket.
On Feb. 9, police were called to Parkridge East hospital on a reported gunshot victim. According to an affidavit of complaint, officers spoke with the man suffering from a gunshot wound to his right calf. That man was Carter. Carter told police that he was driving in the 800 block of South Seminole Drive with a revolver in his left hand, underneath his left leg. Carter said he was pulling the hammer of the pistol back repeatedly when the pistol fired. The bullet entered his right calf and exited the right side of his shin. Carter told police that he pulled into the driveway of a friend’s house where his friend’s grandfather drove him to the hospital.
According to the report, officers inspected Carter’s car and found a small amount of blood spatter underneath the console and the bullet underneath the carpet. At the time of the shooting, Carter said nobody was with him in the car. The report states that Carter and other witnesses claimed they didn’t know where the pistol was. The gun was not recovered, the report states.
According to the report, Carter should not have been in possession of a pistol due to a pending Aggravated Domestic Assault charge against him. Carter was charged additionally with Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
_ 1105 Sewanee Dr.: Police were called to the address Wednesday night on a domestic call. According to an affidavit of complaint, when police arrived they spoke with a boy and a girl who said their father, Ulises Cabellero Cruz, had assaulted their mother as well as the little girl. The report states that police were hampered by a language barrier and called in a Spanish translator. Through a translator, the victim told police that her husband, Cruz, had pushed both herself and the daughter. However, the children’s version included Cruz striking both his wife and daughter in the head with an open hand.
The report states the children were very fearful for their safety and were scared to go inside the house with police. Cruz’s wife did bare a mark on her right arm and what appeared to be bruising around her right eye.
Cruz, 40, was subsequently arrested for Domestic Assault and transported to the Hamilton County Jail. He is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on March 20, records show.
