An argument over cooking catfish landed an East Ridge man in jail on Saturday evening.
Andrew Bush, 34, of Pleasant Street, has been charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault and Reckless Endangerment after he allegedly fired a gun at his fleeing girlfriend.
According to an affidavit of complaint, police were called to 1305 Pleasant Street at 8:43 p.m. on a report of a disorder with a weapon. Dispatch told officers that a woman said that her boyfriend discharged a handgun while arguing with her.
When officers arrived Bush was on the front porch of the house. He was ordered to walk toward officers showing his hands. Bush was ordered to the ground, detained and searched. The report states that Bush was “clearly agitated” and told police that he had been sprayed in the eyes with pepper spray by his girlfriend.
According to the report, Bush told police that he had been in a verbal argument over the preparation of catfish. He said that his girlfriend had become angry and sprayed him in the eyes with the pepper spray.
The girlfriend had taken off from the residence, the report states. Dispatch contacted her and told her to return to the house. Once she returned she told police that she had taken off because she was afraid for her life. She said that Bush became enraged during the argument. The woman claimed that Bush had “gotten in her face,” and drew back his fist and attempted to strike her. She said she sprayed Bush with pepper spray before he could hit her.
The woman told police that Bush then went into their bedroom retrieved a handgun and approached her, pointing the weapon at her head. She said that Bush threatened to kill her while pointing the gun at her. The woman told police that she pleaded with Bush not to shoot her. When he turned away the woman ran from the residence.
According to the report, the woman told police as she ran from the house she heard Bush discharge the handgun. She said that Bush continued to chase her through the yard and into the street where he threw portions of a broken fence at her.
The report states that police found a single spent shell casing by the front door of the house. The woman took officers into the house where a Glock .40-cal pistol was located in the bedroom dresser. Police also found another 9mm pistol and a shotgun in the bedroom. The report states that the shell casing found on the front porch matched the rounds in the magazine of the Glock.
The report states that while police had Bush detained and were investigating the incident he became increasingly angry, making multiple verbal threats to all the officers on the scene. According to the report, Bush said “when I get out, I’m putting you all on blast.” The report states that “blast” means to shoot.
As a result of Bush’s threats toward the officers, police charged Bush with five counts of Retaliation for Past Acts. It is unclear when he is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court.
