_ 3657 Ringgold Rd.: At noon on Saturday officers were dispatched to a potential auto theft call at the Cascades Motel. According to a police report, when the officer arrived he spoke with a man who told him that he allowed an acquaintance to borrow his 2003 Kia Sorento to run errands and see a friend. The car was loaned to the acquaintance with the understanding that the man would return the car no later than 10 a.m. on Saturday. The report states that the complainant had known the man who borrowed the car for about two weeks. The man provided police with the acquaintance’s phone number and a description but no his address or even what state in which the man lived. The report states that officers told the complainant that the vehicle could not be considered stolen at this time because he allowed the acquaintance to borrow the vehicle and he was only two hours late in returning the car. The report states that the complainant understood the issue and that he would follow up with ERPD within the next 24 hours for an update.
According to the report, early on Sunday morning, the Kia Sorento was recovered by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office during an unrelated traffic stop and pursuit that ended on John Ross Road near Close Road. The owner of the Kia was contacted after the incident and provided information on how to recover the vehicle.
_ 879 Belvoir Crest Dr.: Police responded to the address Friday in regard to a prowler. According to a police report, while officers were en route dispatch updated the call to a burglary in progress. Dispatch told officers that the suspect was a black man driving a dark blue sedan. The report states that a witness saw the suspect enter the house and walk out with some items. The suspect then got into his car and was last seen traveling South on Belvoir Drive. Police began actively searching the area for the suspect vehicle but were unable to locate said car.
The report states that police spoke with the witness who told them that he didn’t think anything was amiss until he heard a loud sound. The witness said the man was inside the house looking out the window. The witness told police he went and retrieved a firearm and as he returned the suspect was driving off.
According to the report, a neighboring house had video surveillance and captured the possible suspect vehicle on video. The witness told officers at the scene that the car on the video was the car he saw speeding away.
The homeowner arrived on the scene and told that numerous items were missing from the house. According to the homeowner, the thief got away with a desktop computer, two jewelry boxes containing 25 Michael Kors watches, multiple gold rings, bracelets and necklaces with a value of about $11,500. In addition, the homeowner said the thief took numerous designer purses.
The suspect is described as a black male last seen wearing a gray hoodie, jeans with designs on the rear pockets and white shoes. He was driving a dark blue, four-door sedan. Photos of the vehicle were emailed to all officers on the department. No known suspect information at the time.
_ 183 Cecil Ln.: Police were called to the address on Monday on a reported burglary. According to a police report, when the officer arrived he spoke to a man who said his apartment had been burglarized. The victim left at 8 a.m. and returned just after 7 p.m. The report states that when an officer went inside the apartment he saw that it had been ransacked, with the bed turned over and drawers dumped into the floor. A closet door in the bedroom had been removed from its track. The victim told police that two Amazon tablets were missing along with a toaster oven. There was no apparent forced entry, as the victim told police that his back door was left unlocked.
