Central Downs East Ridge, 41-6

Central downed East Ridge, 41-6, Friday night in a Region 2-4A contest at Raymond James Stadium/Shanks Field.

The loss dropped the Pioneers to 5-2 on the season, 1-2 in region play. East Ridge will host Sequoyah in another region contest next Thursday.

Central built a three touchdown lead late into the third quarter before East Ridge quarterback Eric Bennett popped into the end zone from two yards out to avoid the shutout. The two-point conversion failed.

Bennett completed 12 of 23 passes for 168 yards. He was intercepted three times.

The Pioneers managed only 75 yards rushing and were penalized 11 times for 110 yards.

The Pounders (5-2, 4-0) added three touchdowns in the fourth quarter accounting for the final.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
