_ 728 Frawley Rd.: Police were dispatched to the address on Friday night on a reported assault. According to a police report, offices communicated via text with Robert Kerr IV, who is deaf. He claimed that his father had assaulted him. Kerr IV described the argument that resulted in him being struck in the side with a lamp. The man said he was hit so hard that it knocked the breath out of him. He explained to police that his father had left the residence and that he wanted to be taken to a hospital. The report notes that there was no physical signs that Kerr IV had been assaulted.
The report states that while Kerr IV was being assessed by EMS, his mother arrived on the scene. The woman told officers that her husband had left because he and his son had a physical altercation. The woman told police that her son had been drinking and had become enraged over an argument he had with his girlfriend. The woman told officers that she had been laying on a bed with her husband when Kerr IV came in and slapped the bed with his fists then jumped on his father. The woman told police that Kerr IV continually punched his father during the incident.
According to the report, the father returned to the house to speak with police. Officers immediately noticed blood on the father’s face and forehead. He also had a large bump on his forehead. The man explained that Kerr IV had become enraged after arguing with his girlfriend and began a “brutal” attack on him. The father claimed that Kerr IV had strangled him. Police observed bruising and red marks on the right side of the man’s neck and collarbone. The man said that he tried to call 911 but his son had taken the phone away from him and took the battery out to disable it. He explained that he fought back against his son’s attack in an attempt to defend himself.
Police went to Parkridge East Hospital where Kerr IV was being examined. He was taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Domestic Violence and Interfering with a 911 call.
_ 5408 Ringgold Rd.: Police were dispatched to the Valero gas station Friday night on a “disorder prevention” call. According to a police report, officers met a man who said that he planned to meet a party there to retrieve property that he had reported stolen from Chattanooga. Once on the scene police saw a maroon Lexus parked at the gas pump with a man behind the wheel who was keenly aware of the officers. The Lexus driver got out and walked into the convenience store.
The complainant told police that he had found his stolen lawn equipment for sale at an online website. He contacted the seller acting as if he was interested in buying it. The complainant told police that the person selling the lawn equipment was Butch Shirley and they agreed to meet at Valero. The report states that police have previous knowledge of Shirley, and had caught him some time earlier at the Valero in possession of narcotics.
The report states that officers went inside the store, contacted Shirley and asked him to step outside. He refused and continued talking on a cell phone. Shirley was then ordered outside the store where police asked him why he was there. Shirley told police he was there to buy lottery tickets.
When Shirley’s name was entered into a law enforcement data base it showed active felony warrants out of Hamilton County. Shirley was placed into custody. The report states that Shirley had $435 cash in his pocket. When officers looked through his car windows they saw a small digital scale, the type used in the sale of narcotics. When the vehicle was inventoried prior to being towed, police found 8.8 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine and $2,000 cash in the glove compartment.
Shirley, 26, of a 32nd Street address in Chattanooga, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Oct. 24.
