_ 5707 Ringgold Rd.: On Thursday police were called to the Dollar General Store in regards to a theft. According to a police report, an employee told police that a man had stolen one of the store’s handheld computer scanners. The manager of the store told the officer that the Microsoft scanner valued at about $400 was stolen that morning by the man when she stepped away from the counter for a few minutes. The manager reviewed video surveillance and discovered the theft. The same footage was show to police, which revealed a man about 25 to 35 years of age wearing a white button-down shirt, black pants, a ball cap and sunglasses taking the scanner then walking around the store. The report states that the man left in a green SUV. The officer captured a still picture of the suspect from surveillance video and sent it back to ERPD to see if any other officers could identify the subject.
The report report states that a detective recognized the man as Ryan Leonard of an Oakdale Avenue address. The detective advised that Leonard is currently on probation. The report states that officers went to Leonard’s Oakdale Avenue address and spoke with his mother, who identified her son as the man in the photo. She told police that Leonard drives a green Ford Explorer.
Later that evening, a store employee called police and reported that the man had returned the stolen item. The report states that police went back to the Dollar General Store and spoke with the assistant manager who said that the man told her that he thought the scanner was his cell phone and that he took it from the counter. The man, the assistant manager said, refused to provide her with any information about his identity. The employee told police that someone had tried to log onto the scanner and it erased the program. The assistant manager at the Dollar General Store, the report states, wishes to prosecute Leonard for the theft. The report states that an arrest warrant for Theft under $1,000 will be issued for Ryan Leonard.
_ 3700 block Ringgold Rd.: On Thursday, police saw a blue Toyota Camry traveling east on Ringgold Road turn immediately into Kingwood Pharmacy’s lot once the driver recognized that a police cruiser was behind him. According to a report, the driver of the Toyota got out of the car and went to the trunk. The front passenger got out and went to the door of the now-closed pharmacy and began pulling on the door repeatedly. The passenger, a woman, then went back to the car and sat in the driver’s seat.
According to the report, the subjects remained in the parking lot before police made contact with them. As police made contact, the woman stuck something down into her rain boot. The people in the car consented to a search of the vehicle. According to the report, police found a syringe in one woman’s purse. Another woman told officers that she was concealing narcotics on her person. Police removed a syringe and a small amount of methamphetamine from the woman. Officers also found several pills and an uncapped syringe and a broken spoon on the occupants of the car.
The report states that one woman admitted that she was currently addicted to heroin and that the people inside the car were attempting to buy heroin on Thursday.
The driver was issued a traffic citation for driving on a suspended license. The report states that the investigation is pending. The narcotics and paraphernalia were submitted to the ERPD’s property section.
