East Ridge police are investigating a drive-by shooting that happened late Tuesday evening in the 400 block of South Seminole Drive.
A police report on the 10:45 p.m. incident was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon. However, Police Chief J.R. Reed said investigators had discovered that at least one bullet entered a home in the area and two shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Officials said no injuries were reported.
One resident, who did not want to give their name, said she was alarmed by what she thought were gun shots. The resident said she heard at least four gun shots and “one loud boom.”
The resident said that multiple police vehicles arrived at the scene and shut down the road for a time. She said that the police utilized a K-9, during the incident. Chief Reed said that the K-9 was used to locate spent shell casings.
One source said he found it curious that the incident drew little attention on social media. Several local Facebook pages monitor police activity in East Ridge through a Website operated by Hamilton County 911. The source said the shooting was dispatched and was visible on the county 911 site for only a few minutes before it was removed.
This is the second drive-by shooting investigation in less than two months in East Ridge. On Jan. 21 police responded to McBrien Road at Connell Street to check into a report of shots fired. Police had a witness description of a possible suspect vehicle and searched the area for shell casings using a metal detector. It is unclear if any evidence was recovered during the incident. No arrests have been reported.
_ 1305 Laredo Ave.: On Tuesday afternoon police responded to the address on a shots fired call. According to a police report, the owner of a construction company doing work at the address told officers that he shot a dog that was running loose which posed a threat to his crew.
According to the report, the dog – a three-year-old “Mash” plot hound – had pulled free from his chain and collar from a home up the street and began running throughout the surrounding area in violation of city leash laws. The owner of the construction company said that the aggressive dog ran into the direct vicinity of his crew. It then ran across the street, turned and made another pass at the men working, coming within a couple feet of one man.
The owner of the company, the report states, pulled his Glock 19 from his truck and shot the dog several times “out of fear of his employee’s safety.”
Following the shots, the dog was seen running back to its home up the street where it was met by its owner. East Ridge Animal Services responded at the the request of police, just before the dog was taken for veterinary treatment. The dog later “succumbed to its injuries,” the report states.
Police determined there was no criminal intent in the incident, the report states.
