_ Mission Ridge Oval: On Wednesday at about 1:30 a.m., a police officer saw a white Ford pick-up truck turn from the dead end street onto Ellis Avenue, another dead end street. According to a police report, the officer states that he followed the truck due to the “suspicious nature of the vehicle.” About 10 minutes later police saw the same truck turn from Mission Ridge Oval onto Dunlap Avenue at a high rate of speed. The report states that police attempted to catch up with the truck but lost sight of it in the 700 block of Dunlap Avenue. Police later located the truck backing out of a driveway in the 800 block of Summit Avenue. The report states that when the officer initiated a stop of the truck, the vehicle pulled forward into the driveway and both occupants got out of the truck and started walking away from police toward a wooded area behind the house. Police ordered both people to stop and walk back to the vehicle. According to the report, the driver did what he was told, but a woman continued to walk away.
The driver, who was taken into custody on outstanding warrants from Walker County, told the officer that the woman who walked off was known to him only as “Barbie.” Later, at about 2:45 a.m., police saw a woman walk out of the woods in the 700 block of Summit Avenue. The woman, later identified as Barbara Shope, was taken into custody for evading arrest. During a search incident to arrest, police located 3.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, .7 grams of heroin, 13 syringes and a set of scales in her purse. The report states police also found $473 cash on Shope.
Shope, 29, of a Cleveland address, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale, Possession of Schedule I for Resale and Evading Arrest. She is due to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Feb. 21.
_ 6500 block of Ringgold Rd.: On Tuesday afternoon a police officer noticed a passenger in a black Chevrolet not wearing his seat belt as the car traveled east on Ringgold Road. According to a police report, when the officer was in the process of stopping the car he noticed the front seat passenger toss a clear object out of the window. After initiating the stop, the officer notes in the report that the passenger then turned toward the back seat in a suspected effort to hide something. The report states the officer suspected the object thrown from the car may have been drug contraband, therefore, the passenger was immediately detained for further investigation.
The report states that when the officer patted down the passenger he felt something in his front jacket pocket. The pat down led to the discovery of 4.9 grams of suspected ICE methamphetamine. After placing the suspect under arrest, officers discovered an addition 2.3 grams of methamphetamine in another jacket pocket. The report states that police searched the passenger area of the vehicle and discovered a large bag of suspected ICE methamphetamine in the floor board behind the passenger seat weighing more than 70 grams. Police also found $708 cash on the passenger. The juvenile male suspect was arrested and charged with Felonious Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The report states that 1.3 grams of marijuana was found and seized in the driver’s side door. The pot was believed to have belonged to the driver of the car, the report states.
