_ 1512 Karwill Lane: Police were dispatched to the address Sunday night in regard to a disorder. According to a police report, they spoke with a woman who said that her father – Michael Cantrell – had assaulted her.
The victim told police that she had picked up her father earlier in the day and taken him to her apartment. She said that she left the apartment for awhile only to return to Cantrell having ransacked the place. The victim said that she went inside and Cantrell was throwing things around and “tearing through the house yelling that he was looking for his stuff.”
The victim said her father was high on narcotics and they didn’t allow him to stay there when he was in this condition. The report states that when the man’s daughter approached him to tell him that he must leave he punched her in the mouth. The report states that the victim had a laceration to the inside of lip consistent with being punched.
The victim told officers that two of her friends came to her aid, with one picking up a baseball bat to discourage Cantrell from further assaulting his daughter.
When officers searched Cantrell after placing him in custody, they found two glass pipes with residue on them and a Xanax tablet. Cantrell, the report states, said he did not know what happened or what kind of physical altercation took place. He claimed to have been hit with a baseball bat but did not have any injuries to corroborate the statement.
Cantrell, 44, of a Highway 58 address, was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he was booked for Domestic Assault, Simple Possession of Schedule IV Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
_ Last week East Ridge police officers were advised by Hamilton County dispatch that a red Pontiac driven by a middle-aged woman was seen by a house at 3616 Mimbro Lane driving up to the mailbox and opening it. According to a police report, the person who called dispatch told them that the woman reached inside the mailbox and removed a plain white envelope that contained a house key to another residence. After the woman removed the envelope she proceeded to Germantown Road.
The report states that at about 10 a.m. an officer spotted the Pontiac a short distance away from the scene. When the officer ran the plate on the car it came back to a dark blue Saturn. The officer then saw the driver of the car turn at the corner of Ringgold Road and South Seminole where she parked the car at the East Ridge Car Wash. She got out of the car leaving the door open and went to the rear of the building. The report states that a witness saw the woman throw away something as she walked through the storage facility behind the car wash.
According to the report, when officers stopped the woman – later identified as Malinda Diana Duggan, 45, of a 40th street address in Chattanooga – and spoke with her, she told the officer she was looking for the office of the business, and then gave several false statements as to why she abandoned her car and walked to the storage facility. The report states that Duggan repeatedly attempted to reach into her purse. When the officer asked her if she had any weapons in the purse she said she did not. When the woman placed her purse on the ground it made a “thud,” the report states.
When the officer received consent to search the purse, he found a small amount of substance believed to be crack cocaine. After being read her Miranda warning, Duggan told police that she had picked up the crack for a friend. She also admitted to having a pipe for smoking narcotics, which she admitted to discarding prior to police contact. Duggan told police that she drove to the Mimbro house to meet someone, but changed her mind and turned the car around, striking a mailbox at another house as she left. Duggan denied removing anything from the mailbox, contradicting a witnesses statement.
Duggan was taken to Hamilton County Jail and booked on charges of Possession of Schedule II Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
_ Police have arrested a Ringgold man for auto theft after an employee of a business called authorities on the man that he believed had shoplifted items from his Ringgold Road store.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the Computer Depot last week after an employee recognized him as a suspect in the shoplifting of headphones on an earlier date. On previous encounters with the man – Daniel Tyler Healan – police suspected him of having syringes in his possession. When an officer asked Healan about syringes in his backpack, Healan told police that he did have syringes. The report states that the officer also found a pair of Costa sunglasses, valued at almost $300, in the man’s backpack that matched the description of sunglasses inside a car that was stolen on Jan. 15. On that date, the report states, police had received information that Healan was involved in the auto theft and that he told police at that time where the stolen vehicle was being stored. The sunglasses were not recovered inside the vehicle.
The victim of the auto theft met police at the Computer Depot and identified the sunglasses as that were inside his auto when it was stolen.
Healan, 32, of a Vicky Lane address in Ringgold, was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a charge of Theft under $500. He was later charged with Auto Theft, according to booking reports from the jail.
