A pair of thieves used a pry bar to break into Walgreens, early Wednesday, then cleaned out a cabinet full of narcotics.
According to a police report, police responded to a burglar alarm at the Walgreens at 3508 Ringgold Road. When officers arrived they found that the front door had been forced open and that the pharmacy area had also been entered.
The report states that the manager arrived on scene and reviewed video surveillance footage. It was determined that the suspects used a pry bar to gain entry into the store and immediately ran to the pharmacy where they pulled a sliding door off its track. Once inside the pharmacy area, the video shows the suspects went to a cabinet where narcotics were stored and forced it open.
According to the report, at this time it is unclear of the quantity of narcotics stolen or the value of the drugs. The manager of the store was to have provided investigators with a detailed list of items taken along with a value of those items.
The suspects are described as black males wearing gray hoodies, gray sweat pants and gloves. Video shows the suspects exiting the store, running to the rear of the building where they entered a four-door, silver sedan. Once the car left the lot, it traveled east bound on Ringgold Road.
_ 5301 Ringgold Road: Officer David Harding saw a person ride his bicycle across the intersection oat 5301 Ringgold Road in the path of several oncoming vehicles just after 2 a.m. on Monday morning.
According to a police report, the officer stopped the bike rider, identified as David Evans, 37, of a Dupont Street address, who told the officer that he had just left the Walgreens and was headed home. The report states in addition to the “traffic infraction” there had been several white males in the area stealing bicycles on Sunday.
The report states that Officer Harding checked Evans for warrants where he discovered at least one outstanding warrant for the man through Hamilton County. When Officer Harding and another officer attempted to takee the suspect into custody he immediately ran.
The report states that the officers ordered Evans to stop as he ran across Ringgold Road. “Evans slipped on his sagging pants as he tried to escape on foot behind the pharmacy,” the report states.
Evans refused orders to place his hands behind his back and resisted the attempts of the officers, the report states.
“I advised the suspect I would use my Taser on him if he continued to resist,” the report states. “Evans again refused and I tased him for about two or three seconds, which caused Evans to comply.”
Evans was taken into custody and complained of shoulder pain. He was taken to Parkridge East for evaluation. After Evans was cleared medically, he was taken to Hamilton County Jail where he was charged with Evading Arrest.
