According to our friends at NewsChannel9, an elderly woman has been jailed for attacking her daughter.
The incident happened on Tuesday at a home on Martha Avenue.
East Ridge Police Department spokesman Tim Mullinax shared the arrest narrative with NewsChannel 9.
An officer responded to the home after a report of a stabbing. A woman told dispatchers she was locked inside her bedroom, she had been stabbed, and that the person who stabbed her was outside the door with a shotgun.
The officer arrived to hear loud screaming coming from the home. He then knocked on the door and was met by Sharon Regina Lawson. She told him she and her daughter had been fighting, and that she had been assaulted.
The officer then spoke with Lawson’s daughter, who said she and Lawson had been fighting off and on, and that shortly before the officer arrived they had been arguing over the ringing of the phone.
The daughter told the officer that Lawson was commanding that she leave the residence with her 8-year-old son, and that when she tried to leave Lawson grabbed a knife in the kitchen. The daughter says she then went to the bedroom and tried to lock the door, when Lawson jabbed the knife in the door opening, cutting her. That’s when she called police.
The daughter says she and her son stayed inside the bedroom and then heard Lawson getting a shotgun out of the bedroom across the hall, and once again demanded that she leave the house.
The daughter says while she waited for police to arrive, Lawson grabbed a shirt and a pair of flip flops and lit them on fire on the living room floor, in what she described as an attempt to “smoke them out.”
The officer noticed smoke in the residence and found burn marks and melted nylon material on the floor. Lawson told the officer she later took the items and threw them out the back door, which police found later. Police also determined the shotgun Lawson’s daughter was holding was loaded, but not chambered.
Lawson now faces charges that include two counts of reckless endangerment, aggravated domestic assault, and aggravated arson. She’s now in the Hamilton County Jail.
