An umpire at a softball tournament at Camp Jordan over the weekend is suspected of giving a player’s mother a morphine pill.
According to a police report, an officer was called to the park on Saturday on a report of suspicious activity. An officer spoke with the male complainant who told him he was the father of a softball player. The man said that he overheard a conversation between other parents talking about an umpire that had been working the game. He said that he overheard that the umpire had been flirting with the mother of one of the players, and had been friendly with her over the course of two days.
The man told police that the umpire had given the mother a morphine pill and asked her to leave with him. The man pointed out to the officer the mother who had been approached by the umpire. When police spoke with the woman, she related that the umpire had made numerous comments to her and at one point “told her she smelled good and wanted to hug her,” the report states. The woman dismissed the umpire’s behavior.
At one point during the game, she had been in the restroom and when she came out the umpire approached her. According to the report, the woman told police that the umpire told her that he “had something that would make her feel good and handed her a purple 30 milligram pill that later was identified as Morphine per PillFinder.com.”
Morphine in Tennessee is a Schedule II controlled substance and if distributed illegally is considered a Class C felony, the report states.
The woman told officers that the umpire asked her to leave with him after the game, but she refused. The woman told police that she lived in Alabama and did not wish to cooperate in being a witness in court.
The woman described the umpire to police who through the cooperation of officials with the umpire’s association quickly identified him. The umpiring officials told police that the man may be found at America’s Best Value Inn. A quick check with the motel found that the man had been there but he was not a registered guest.
Police ran the man’s name and determined that he lives in Madisonville, Tenn. The report states that “due to no cooperation from (the woman) to testify in court, no charges will be filed at this time.”
_ 3600 block of Missionaire Ave.: Police were called to the scene early Sunday morning in response to a disorder. According to a police report, when officers arrived they spoke with a woman who was outside talking with neighbors. She told them that she and her husband had gotten into an argument in their house earlier and that he had taken her cell phone and refused to return it. The report states that an officer “immediately noticed (the woman) had previously been bleeding and had multiple bruises on her right arm and right side of her neck.” When asked about the injuries, the woman said that her husband “threw her around and up against a wall.” The report states that the officer noticed a “strong odor of alcohol coming from (the woman).”
The report states that an officer spoke with her husband. The man told police that he and his wife had indeed been arguing over the cell phone and other issues. He said that his wfie had been at Riverbend all day and had gotten into a fight with another woman. He said that his wife was heavily intoxicated and called him after the fight to come and pick her up. The man collected his wife from Riverbend only to return to the house and get into a fight.
Police asked the man about his wife’s injuries. He told the officer that her busted lip was probably a result of the fight with the woman at Riverbend. He said that the bruising on her was a result of jumping off the “Gordon Lee Mills” bridge a few days earlier. The report states that the man said “he had not laid a hand on her and upon checking his hands there were no signs of any abrassions, cuts or scratches.”
When officers spoke to the woman about the fight at Riverbend, she denied it all. She said that she and her husband had been out all night at “Chuck’s Bar.”
The report states that the officers believed the bruising was old and were unable to determine a primary aggressor, neither person was arrested. The parties were separated and the woman was taken to Ringgold Road to “wait for a ride.” The report states that while the officer was giving the woman a lift, she said that she had been at the “Gordon Lee Mills” bridge a few days prior but that the injuries had not been sustained there.
