Soccer Team Wins

East Ridge High School’s soccer team ended its regular season on a winning note, downing Sweetwater 3-0 in a non-district road game.

Coy Vandergriff, Hunter Schobert and Alejandro Vicente each scored goals for the Pioneers, which finished the 2016 season with a 10-2 overall record. Schobert, Vicente and Rijad Kazic were credited with assists.

The Pioneers got off 15 shots against Sweetwater while the East Ridge defense allowed only one shot by its opponent.

The Pioneers, District 6 A/AA champs will face the winner of the Howard-Central game, Tuesday at Camp Jordan in the district tournament semifinals. Game time is 7 p.m.

Dick Cook has lived in East Ridge since the Kennedy Administration when his parents bought a house on Marietta Street. Dick graduated from ERHS in 1976 before going on to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied Political Science. He was among reporters who were honored by the Associated Press for the TFP's coverage of the 2002 fog-shrouded crash on I-75 in Catoosa County, Dick and his wife, Cathy, live on Marlboro Avenue where they are seen frequently chasing around their three grandsons.
