As part of Phase 2 (the second of two projects) to widen and improve the I-75 at I-24 interchange in Hamilton County, Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will begin major construction activities with a closure of the South Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges over I-24.
On Friday, July 14, at 9:00 pm ET, Exit 184 from I-24 East to Moore Road and Exit 183A from I-24 West to Belvoir Avenue will be closed for crews to begin work on the ‘continuous flow’ detour route in preparation for the bridge closures. Work will include pavement repairs, restriping, signal work, etc. on North and South Terrace that will require lane closures and a flagging operation. Traffic from I-24 East will access South Terrace via Exit 183 to Germantown Road. Traffic from I-24 West will access North Terrace via Exit 184 to Moore Road. Signs will be posted.
On Wednesday, July 19, at 9:00 pm ET, the South Moore Road and McBrien Road bridges over I-24 will be closed along with the remaining entrance and exit ramps to I-24 between Belvoir Avenue and Spring Creek Road. Traffic will access I-24 East using the entrance ramp east of S. Moore Road. Traffic will access I-24 West via the entrance ramp from Germantown Road. Signs will be posted.
The bridges will be closed for one year. Closing them both at one time allows for expedited construction of the bridges, reducing traffic impacts from two years to one year.
All work is weather dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances delay this work, it will be rescheduled to take place at a later date. Drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed through the work zone, follow posted signage, and remain alert to changing traffic conditions.
